Lurdes Zapata is a Soprano and student of Dr. Pamela Hinchman at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music. She is a Master of Music Candidate for Voice & Opera. Lurdes will have her Master’s Recital on March 16th at 6pm in the Galvin Recital Hall at the Bienen School of Music. Looking forward, she is also debuting the role of Lisette in La Rondine in May with the Northwestern Opera Theater. In her first quarter, she performed the role of Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring with the Bienen Opera.

Recently a graduate of Cal State Long Beach, she studies under the direction of Dr. Jennifer Sung. Lurdes has won various classical voice competitions such as NATS Cal-Western, Redlands Bowl Young Artist Competition and Southern California Philharmonic - Young Artists Solo Competition. 

During the summers, she travels to Austria to advance her studies in opera performance. This included singing in the Austria Summer Music Festival located in Weyer, Austria, where she performed art songs in their festival performances, while also being selected to perform in master classes with Sylvia Edelmann and Peter Edelmann. In her Summer 2023 season, Lurdes toured Italy and Slovenia as a member of the Bob Cole Chamber Choir performing sacred choral works. Lurdes also made her operatic debut in Vienna, Austria as Novice in the opera Suor Angelica with the Vienna Summer Music Festival during her European Tour. 

In the United States, she has been invited to sing the National Anthem in various sports arenas and events, including California State University Long Beach (Men’s Water Polo and Women’s Soccer), Fullerton College (Men’s Basketball and Men’s Soccer) as well as for the professional LA Galaxy Soccer Team. 

Lurdes debuted with the Los Angeles Opera in El Ultimo Sueño de Frida y Diego as a supernumerary in November 2023. She joined LA Opera again in their production of Turandot in May 2024. Lurdes played the role of Adele in Bob Cole’s production of Die Fledermaus in April 2024.
